The Blueface Angelfish, scientifically known as Pomacanthus xanthometopon, is a stunning marine fish that gets its name from its distinctive coloration. It’s a popular choice for aquarists who have larger marine aquariums. Here’s some information about the Blueface Angelfish:

    • Appearance:
      • Adult Blueface Angelfish have a yellowish-green body with electric blue spots and stripes. The most distinctive feature is its blue face, contrasted by a bright yellow mask that covers the eyes. As juveniles, their appearance is vastly different; they have vertical white bars on a dark blue or black background.
    • Size:
      • They can grow up to about 15 inches (38 cm) in length in the wild, making them one of the larger angelfish species. In aquariums, they usually stay a bit smaller.
    • Natural Habitat:
      • The Blueface Angelfish is native to the Indo-Pacific region, from the Maldives to the Philippines, and down to Australia.
    • Tank Requirements:
      • Due to their potential size, it’s recommended to house them in a tank of at least 220 gallons (830 liters) or larger.
      • They prefer a tank with plenty of hiding places, caves, and live rock to graze on.
    • Diet:
      • Omnivorous in nature, their diet should consist of a variety of meaty foods like shrimp, mysis, and marine algae. Prepared angelfish preparations, which often contain sponge matter, can also be beneficial.
      • It’s important to feed them a diverse diet to ensure they receive all necessary nutrients.
    • Temperament:
      • Generally semi-aggressive. While they may coexist peacefully with many fish, they can be territorial and might not get along with other angelfish or similar-looking species.
    • Reef Compatibility:
      • There’s a risk with keeping Blueface Angelfish in reef tanks. They have been known to nip at stony and soft corals and might eat certain invertebrates.
    • Care Level:
      • Considered to be of a moderate care level. Ensuring a varied diet and maintaining high water quality are crucial.
    • Health:
      • Like other marine fish, they can be prone to diseases like marine ich and velvet. It’s essential to monitor their health, quarantine new arrivals, and consider a UV sterilizer to help manage potential outbreaks.

The Blueface Angelfish is undoubtedly a centerpiece fish due to its striking appearance. However, due to its size and specific needs, it’s best suited for experienced aquarists with larger tank setups.
